Pilonidal sinus: the dimple that will not settle

A pilonidal sinus is a small tract in the cleft at the top of the buttocks, usually containing hair. It is not a disease of the anus, though it is often mistaken for one.
Why it keeps coming back
Loose hair works into the skin and sets up a chronic reaction. Unless the tract and the hair are dealt with, the same cycle repeats, which is why simple drainage often buys only temporary relief.
